PAULA CHORLEY

Paula Chorley is a hybrid creative; artist, writer, and entrepreneur. Her work in the fashion and film industries provides a fertile  foundation for her recent artworks.

 

Collecting kaleidoscopes has been a passion since Chorley was a young girl, and has provided the inspiration for her current work. She sought to see the kaleidoscopic images which, only she could view solo, as a shared experience. Essentially bring the image out of a very intimate environment and create a work that can be accessible to an audience of more than one viewer.

 

Every element of each image begins as a digital photo which is generated from one of the kaleidoscopes in her collection. She digitally manipulates and "paints" into the forms and images.

 

The process of collecting imagery which exists in a moment, and solely for the pleasure of one viewer has been the central focus of this collection. Translating these images onto paper, while striving to retain the ephemeral quality of the original light and color images within the kaleidoscope, is the ultimate goal of Chorley's work.
